Wife Interrupted

Wife Interrupted

As I look  into those eyes
I wonder why ?
Time seems to stand still for you.

As I look into those eyes
I wonder why ?
Time stole our memories from you

As I look at you
I know why a certain lyric
Allows your memory again to tick,
In tune with me.

As we talk of the past,
You sometimes remember the cast
Of our shared history,
Yet the simplest of things,
Remain to you a mystery

As I delve into your eyes
I still see the person
I've loved all my life
No matter what you do or say.
As I look at you
In your essence, you still remain,
My wonderful wife xxxx

  11. Hello.
Had a lump in my throat reading this.
Poignant and oh so bittersweet, but in spite of this awful illness the power of love still remains.

    Simply beautiful.

Thank for sharing & for the visit too.

  20. This is a place I don't ever want to be. Would I, like the man in your poem, still see the woman I love, or would I see a shell robbed of its soul? I hope I never have to answer such questions.

  25. the character who wrote this seems to see things from his point of view rather exclusively. not sure if that was supposed to come across, in other words, does not see the situation from anyone else's point of view.

  26. Sadly compelling and hopeful in the end. The last stanza is my favorite.

  27. think that's one of the hardest illnesses because the person is still there but still no longer there...hard to deal with..a fine write kez

  28. No worse punishment for a spouse or child than to see the one you love alive but his/her essence, history, personality, gone and sometimes a monster in its place; sometimes a lost, disjointed stranger. Horrible, horrible. Yet your write was tender, and understanding. Well done.
